2. What is a Meeting?

 

 

Introduction

 

A meeting is a gathering of three or more people sharing common objectives.

 

Verbal communication is the primary means of achieving those objectives.

 

Other kinds of communication are included in the situation; for example, body language, eye contact and tone of voice.

 

How to Have a Successful Meeting

Having a successful meeting involves a number of things.

 

1. Organization/ preparation

This usually includes having an agenda.

 

2. All the participants arrive on time

 

3. Everybody takes an active part in the meeting

 

4. Everyone is polite and respectful to others

 

 Hopefully the meeting will have a successful conclusion, with decisions being made and actions with deadlines being decided.

 

Sometimes there is enough information to be completely successful and so other actions after the meeting has finished may be unnecessary.

 

Sometimes further meetings are required.
